Esophageal replacement in patients under 3 months of age

Abstract 

From 1985 to 1991, esophageal replacement was performed in seven patients with esophageal atresia without fistula. In four, the operation was performed in the neonatal period; three of these patients are alive. The other three patients were operated on between 2 and 3 months of age; two of them are alive. Six of the patients had colonic interposition, and the other had gastric interposition. Of the two patients who died, one had multiple associated malformations; the other one had a massive barium bronchoaspiration before the esophageal replacement. (J Pediatr Surg 1994 Apr;29(4):487-91)
