Appendiceal carcinoid tumor with lymph node metastasis in a child: case report and review of the literature
Most appendiceal carcinoids (ACs) in children present without lymph node metastasis. Lymph node metastasis is rarely present when primary tumor diameter exceeds 1 cm. We present the extraordinary case of an AC with a primary tumor diameter of 0.7 cm and infiltration of the mesentery, as well as 1 positive lymph node of the mesentery in a 14-year-old boy. Besides adding a rare case, we review the data published in the current literature on AC with lymph node metastasis in children and summarize up-to-date guidelines for diagnostic workup, therapy, and follow-up.Stone-containing periampullary duodenal duplication cyst with aberrant pancreatic duct
This case report describes a unique variant of a duodenal duplication cyst in an 8-year-old boy who had recurrent episodes of upper abdominal pain. Imaging revealed a stone-containing cyst near the biliaropancreatic ducts and concomitant hydrops of the gallbladder. Open transduodenal marsupialization of the cyst and resection of the inflamed gallbladder were performed. We report on a case of nodular periorchitis, an uncommon perifunicular mass in a 13-year-old adolescent accompanied by contralateral hydrocele. Nodular periorchitis is a rare, fibroproliferative, benign mesenchymal neoplasm of the paratesticular tissues of the scrotum with a low risk for recurrence. The authors report on an 8-year-old boy with unilateral left-sided Leydig cell tumor. After enucleation of the tumor, endocrine disturbances resolved. Long-time follow-up for more than 7 years was characterized by growth-arrest of the affected gonad and the unchanged appearance of a circumscribed hypoechogenic residual lesion within the testis.
